WHAT ARE CHAKRAS?
Chakras are vital energy centers in the human body that are anchored in various spiritual and metaphysical traditions. They are often depicted as spinning wheels or vortices of energy. The most widely recognized system comprises seven main chakras, which are arranged along the spine and extend from the base to the crown of the head.
Each chakra has a meaning for certain physical and psychological functions. In addition, these energy centers are associated with specific colors that represent their unique energy frequencies. These colors are usually represented as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet and help to understand the different aspects and characteristics attributed to each chakra.
FIRST CHAKRA
Root Chakra
The first chakra, often called the root chakra, is represented by the color red and is physically located at the pelvic floor or perineum.
In energy medicine, the chakras are visualized as spheres or rays of light running along the body.
Starting at the base, known as the pelvic floor and referred to as the first chakra, we count seven chakras running from bottom to top.
The root chakra considered the cornerstone of the entire energetic system, tends to harbor fear. In the context of advanced consciousness, fear is recognized as an illusion rather than a tangible reality. Recognizing this can be a challenge for the logical mind, especially in a world where many people are driven by fear and make decisions that are influenced by fear, worry, anxiety, or stress — all of which are associated with fear. It is critical to minimize fear to maintain the optimal function of the root chakra and facilitate the transmission of positive energy through the body's anatomy and physiology. Anatomically, the root chakra governs the region from the hips down to the toes and encompasses all non-organic structures. This includes bones, ligaments, tendons, and the entire blood system. It regulates factors such as calcium, magnesium, hemoglobin, white blood cells, cholesterol, and other components of the blood. When I say that the root chakra governs these aspects, it means that its vibration and frequency, which indicate its health, influence the organs under its jurisdiction. This includes the large intestine, the coccyx, the bone marrow, and all the bones in the body.
SECOND CHAKRA
SACRAL CHAKRA
The second chakra, known as the sacral chakra, is characterized by its bright orange color and is located in the navel area.
It is remarkably unique among the seven chakras and regulates anatomical and physiological aspects. It also extends its influence to the reproductive organs, kidneys, adrenal glands, lower back, appendix, and bladder.
What distinguishes the sacral chakra is its holistic reach. It oversees bodily functions and plays a central role in love life, financial well-being, career aspirations, friendships, and creative endeavors. Each primary chakra contains an emotional component; the second chakra is specifically associated with joy.
A joyful attitude towards our resources, love life, friendships, career, and creative pursuits is crucial. This conscious appreciation enhances the quality of these aspects. It contributes to the overall health and well-being of the associated organs and systems.
Contrary to the idea that emotions originate solely in the brain, the reality is much more complex. Even though the mind projects a range of feelings throughout the day, these are not real emotions but mental constructs. Working with the second chakra allows connecting with true emotions and intuition authentically and gain a deep understanding of one's true feelings.
THIRD CHAKRA
SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA
The third chakra, commonly known as the solar plexus chakra, radiates a warm yellow and is located just between the rib cage. It occupies a unique position as the last chakra in the system, often referred to as the chakra of lower vibration.
Each primary chakra exercises control over extensive anatomical regions; the third chakra is no exception. It has authority over vital organs such as the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen, stomach, small intestinal tract, lymph nodes, and the properties of the lymphatic fluid.
This powerhouse chakra also regulates all endocrine organs and oversees hormonal functions ranging from insulin secretion in the pancreas to the intricate dance of hormones in the reproductive organs — testosterone in men and estrogen/progesterone in women.
FOURTH CHAKRA
HEART CHAKRA
The fourth chakra, known as the heart chakra, radiates a calming shade of green and is located in the center of the chest. It controls important aspects such as the heart muscle, the lungs, the thymus gland, and the upper back. It orchestrates the complicated movement of the blood in the vessels, arteries, capillaries, veins, and the fluid in the lymphatic system.
Remarkably, the size of the heart chakra reflects the age of a person's soul. People with a well-developed and expansive heart chakra extending beyond the rib cage show abundant life experiences that indicate an old soul. This expansive quality promotes a high degree of empathy and exceptional communication skills.
Conversely, younger souls possess a heart chakra with a diameter of two and a half centimeters. As souls develop, the heart chakra also grows. It expands with the growth of a non-judgmental attitude and deep compassion. The fourth chakra is the gateway to the higher vibrational chakras. It departs from the basic concerns of security, survival, and self-love found in the lower vibrational chakras (1, 2, and 3). These lower chakras govern fundamental aspects of human life, such as career, finances, relationships, and creativity.
FIFTH CHAKRA
THROAT CHAKRA
The fifth chakra, the so-called throat chakra, radiates a calm blue color and is located at the base of the neck. This energy center is closely associated with communication, self-expression, and creativity. Its essence is about speaking one's truth without hesitation and thus promoting self-determination in the present moment.
The true alignment you achieve by expressing your truth catalyzes the activation of your life purpose and divine plan. Through this alignment comes clarity about your identity, your aspirations, and the recognition of your innate gifts and talents. The main function of the throat chakra is communication and includes verbal and non-verbal expressions. It is the channel for expressing thoughts, ideas, and emotions with clarity and authenticity.
An imbalance in the throat chakra can manifest as difficulty in self-expression, fear of judgment, or difficulty speaking one's truth. Healing practices for this energy center often include activities that promote self-expression, such as singing, writing, or creative pursuits. In addition, special breathing exercises can help to release tension in the throat area and improve communication.
SIXTH CHAKRA
THIRD EYE CHAKRA
The sixth chakra, also known as the third eye chakra, presents itself in a royal purple color and is located in the middle of the forehead, just above the space between the eyebrows. This deep energy center is closely connected to the pineal gland. It can uniquely perceive beyond the physical world through sight, hearing, and touch.
The third eye chakra serves as a hub of intuition, insight, and higher perception and acts as the seat of spiritual consciousness. It is the point through which one can connect to a deeper understanding of oneself and the universe. An imbalanced third eye chakra can manifest as intuition problems, lack of clarity, or difficulty trusting inner guidance.
Various practices are recommended to restore balance and promote healing of the third eye chakra. Meditation, visualization, and mindfulness are powerful tools to achieve balance. Aromatherapy with scents such as incense and lavender is believed to promote the activation of the third eye and support the journey to higher states of consciousness.
SEVENTH CHAKRA
CROWN CHAKRA
The seventh chakra, the so-called "crown" chakra, is located at the top of the head, symbolically at the crown. It is associated with the fontanel area in infants and is associated with the color violet, which symbolizes purity, clarity and the full spectrum of light. While the other chakras are associated with specific elements, the crown chakra is often associated with the element of thought or consciousness.
The main function of the crown chakra is to connect a person to the divine, the universe or a higher consciousness. It is considered the gateway to higher states of consciousness. This particular chakra is associated with the experience of unity, oneness and the transcendence of the ego. It represents the understanding that all aspects of existence are interconnected. It is also associated with wisdom that transcends intellectual understanding and provides a deep sense of knowledge and divine insight.
An imbalance in the crown chakra can manifest as feelings of disconnectedness, spiritual emptiness or aimlessness. To balance and activate this energy center, practices such as meditation, prayer and mindful awareness are often recommended. Cultivating awareness of the present moment and letting go of attachments can also be helpful.
